When students are working on projects, especially open-ended ones, resist the urge to intervene. Don’t do the job for them!

  • It can help to keep your hands in your pockets during the activity.
  • Whatever it takes to let your students struggle and work through their own problems during the activity.
  • We tend to rescue girls and let boys struggle, part of fixing this is answering questions with a question. Encourage them to solve the problem using what they know by:
    • Having students check the obvious and talk through the bug before getting involved.
      • This will help students hone their debugging technique and help them debug on their own in the future.
