Provide students with practice opportunities to develop the verbal communication skills needed for successful pair programming to ensure that students gain the most out of these activities.

  • Working with other students can be difficult, especially when students don’t have a lot of practice with team work or don’t have the necessary tools they need to communicate successfully.

  • When students are starting to learn to program it is important to give them practice with:

    • Language for checking in with their partner.

    • Sentence starters for providing direct peer feedback like the following examples:

      • One thing my partner did that helped me solve a problem…

      • One thing that would help me and my partner is ...
