Advocate for hiring more teachers of color in your school, district, and state.

Goal:

• Have more teachers of color teaching students who share their race.

Reason:

• There is a deep connection people have based upon shared identity.
• The research points to the idea that there is no substitute to teachers of color teaching students who share their race

Action:

• Pressure unions to make hiring teachers of color the top priority.
• Advocate for alternative licensing options for paraprofessionals and teaching aides, these positions are disproportionately held by people of Color, especially in cities
• Get on the hiring committees at your school and ask hard questions about who is considered "qualified candidates."
