Have students simulate programming in Scratch in a pair activity where one student is the Controller and the other is the Code.

  • In this activity, one student, the Controller, will give the other student, the Code, explicit instructions to follow to imitate how coding makes a computer do something.
  • To prepare for this activity, print out full-page images of Scratch blocks for students to use.
  • Activity:
    • Assign students to pairs.
    • Assign one student to be the Controller and the other to be the Code.
    • Tell the Controller that they must get the Code to perform some task.
      • For example, this task might be moving to a certain location in the room.
    • The Controller must use the printed out images of blocks to get the Code to perform the task.
